Consumer Financial Protection Agency

E-mail Print PDF

The Obama Administration is firing legislation through the Congress at a furious pace.  There are two reasons behind the activity.  1. They are hoping that the electorate is busy concentrating on the Gulf oil spill and are too busy to notice the congressional schedule.  2. The administration is scurrying to get as much of their progressive agenda passed before they lose the majority in Congress in November.

Pasted below is an appeal by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce to assist in defeating the Consumer Financial Protection Agency Bill.  Like all political bills the title is designed to sound like something very desirable.

Everyone is in favor of protecting consumers and if you are not...shame on you.  Well, a closer look will show that its true intent is far from innocent.

Please, if you have a moment to  spare, assist with this "virtual" march on Washington by contacting your representatives.  I have already done so...it's easy.  Just follow the blue underlined links in the message below to join the fight to defeat this bill.

Dear Supporter,

In the House of Representatives, it was the Consumer Financial Protection Agency (CFPA) Act.

The Senate re-named it the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection.

No matter what it's called -- this new government agency will hurt small businesses, American jobs, and the economy with new restrictions.

Despite your efforts -- and those of thousands of individuals like you sending letters calling for sound financial regulatory reform -- the House and Senate are now meeting on final legislation and plan to send it to the President's desk by July 4.

As a final stand, we are holding the March for Main Street next week.

Participants from across the country will march online to stop the CFPA and demonstrate why this legislation willl do more than impact Wall Street, it will hurt Main Street businesses as well by limiting their access to capital and ultimately, their ability to create jobs and grow this economy.

You are one of over 23,000 "virtual marchers" who have sent a letter to Capitol Hill on this issue. Check out who is marching with you here: www.marchformainstreet.org/nationalmall.

Thank you for being one of the first people to join the Virtual March to Stop the CFPA. With the official launch of the March for Main Street next week, we hope many more will join.

You can continue to weigh in by sending more letters to your members of Congress and show that public sentiment is still against the CFPA.

In addition, you can personalize your online avatar at www.MarchForMainStreet.org.

Thanks for your support.

Sincerely,

Bill Miller
Senior Vice President and National Political Director
U.S. Chamber of Commerce
